Registration & Residency

The Berlin Board of Education requires that each new student registers and provides proof of residency prior to attending Berlin Public Schools. Current Berlin students who move within town must also provide proof of residency.

Public School Registration - New Students

Step 1 -Complete the online registration form below for the correct school year.

  • Access the registration form here. NOTE: Students must receive notification of acceptance to the preschool program prior to registration.

Demographics Updates

If you are a current resident and need to update your address, please download the CHANGE OF ADDRESS - CURRENT RESIDENTS form. Transportation changes and changes to the student's mailing address cannot be made before proof of residency is received.

Magnet / Other Student Registration

Magnet schools

Student Residency Verification Forms may be dropped off at the Board of Education for completion. Please allow up to 7 business days for completion of the form. You will be contacted by phone for pick up once the form is ready to be picked up. If you would like the form mailed to you, please provide a self-addressed, stamped envelope at drop off.

NOTE: First year magnet students who did not attend Berlin Public Schools the previous year, magnet students who have moved within Berlin, or students new to Berlin must also complete a MAGNET SCHOOL REGISTRATION FORM and submit proof of residency documentation. Please call 860-828-6581 to make an appointment.

Other schools

Students attending out-of-town technical/vo-ag schools, Mooreland Hill and St. Paul School in Kensington are required to be registered with Berlin Public Schools in order to receive transportation.

Superintendent's Letter to Kindergarten Parents

Students who will be age 5 on or before January 1, 2020 are eligible to attend kindergarten during the 2019-2020 school year. Please be sure to select the 2019-2020 registration tab when registering.

2019-2020 Kindergarten Registration is now open!
Berlin Public Schools will be holding open sessions for parents/guardians who have registered online and are ready to complete the registration process. These sessions will be held in the Board of Education Administration Building on February 19, 2019 between the hours of 9:00-11:30 AM and 12:30-3:00 PM, and on February 27, 2019 between the hours of 4:00-7:00 PM. An appointment is not required for parents/guardians dropping off proof of residency and enrollment documents during one of these open sessions. If an alternate date is needed, please call (860) 828-6581 to make an appointment.

Kindergarten Orientation
An orientation meeting for parents will take place at each respective elementary school on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at 5:45 p.m. Please be certain that your child is completely registered prior to the orientation. An additional program for parents and kindergarten students will be offered prior to the opening of school in August.

Exercising your option to withhold your child
Parents have the option not to send their kindergarten eligible child who is 4 or 5 years of age to school until the child is 6 or 7 years of age. If you decide to elect to exercise your option to withhold your child from kindergarten in the Berlin Public Schools for the 2019-2020 school year, please complete and return to the Board of Education a SCHOOL ATTENDANCE OPTION FORM. You will have an opportunity to meet with school personnel. Please note that this form must also be returned if your child will be attending a private or magnet school for kindergarten.
