Update on H1N1 Vaccination Efforts
November 11, 2009
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Please accept this letter as an update on our plans to offer school based H1N1 vaccination clinics. We have received your pre-registration form(s) and intend to use them to invite students (with parent or guardian present) to after-hours school based clinics once an adequate supply of vaccine becomes available. At this time, the current supply of vaccine is limited and therefore we are not able to offer large school based clinics.
In the meantime however, we are able to offer vaccination by invitation only to individuals within established priority groups. Registrations are only being accepted from individuals that are within one of the identified priority groups as noted below:
Injected vaccine is available for the following priority groups:
- Pregnant women
- Household contacts and caregivers of infants less than 6 months of age
- Children aged 6 months through 6 years
- Individuals aged 7 through 24 years with high risk medical conditions
- School nurses
Nasal mist vaccine is available for the following priority groups:
Ø Healthy people aged 2 through 24 years
Ø Healthy household contacts and caregivers (who are 49 years old and younger) of infants who are 6 months of age or younger
(NOTE: Nasal mist is NOT available for people with: chronic diseases such as asthma, diabetes, heart or lung conditions, kidney or liver disease, anemia or other blood disorders, cerebral palsy, weakened immune systems; women who are pregnant; anyone in close contact with a person with a severely weakened immune system; children or adolescents on long-term aspirin treatment.)
Individuals who fall within one of these priority groups, even if they have submitted a school pre-registration form, may call our H1N1 clinic registration number at (860)721-2815 to register now. Doing so may allow you or your child to receive the vaccine for which you are eligible sooner, without having to wait for the school-based clinic supply to become available.
For additional information, please call (860)721-2822 or visit our web site at www.ccthd.org.
Thank you for your understanding and patience.
Sincerely,
Paul Hutcheon, M.P.H., R.S.
Director of Health
